Description

Did you know that dedicated public engagement funding is now on offer in the Departments of Disease Control and Clinical Research? We plan that the Scheme will be extended to the Departments of Immunology & Infection and Pathogen Molecular Biology this year.

Staff and Research Degree students in these departments will be able to apply for up to £1,000 to run their own projects here in the UK, or with communities overseas.

On this evening, last year’s grant holders will be presenting their projects and taking questions. We will also share information about how staff and research degree students in the Departments of Disease Control and Clinical Research can apply for the 2016 grant round.

Speakers from the following funded projects will be there to inspire you:

  • “What makes you happy and healthy? What makes you sick?” An arts-based project for Tanzanian school children: Lena Lorenz, Research Fellow in Medical Entomology, Department of Disease Control
  • “Outbreak!” a partnership with the London Metropolitan Archives looking at epidemics using maps and imagery from the LMA smallpox collection: Sham Lal, Research Fellow, Department of Disease Control
  • “The bitter taste of sugar” in Zambia, giving people living with diabetes a voice through informal discussion and turning thoughts into cartoons for use in newspapers, leaflets and social media:Sarah-Louise Bailey, Clinical Research Fellow, Department of Clinical Research
  • “Let’s talk about epilepsy”. An interactive workshop for parents and teachers of children living with epilepsy in rural Tanzania. Ewan Hunter, NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Infectious Diseases and General Medicine, Department of Clinical Research
